Abstract: 

Many current campus safety advocacy groups and the popular media often imply that crime on campuses or institutions of higher education is something that has come to light only in recent years when, in fact, crime on and around the university is as old as the university itself. This article addresses campus crime from long ago, the kind of security that has been implemented on many campuses, how federal laws impact campus crime, and how crime impacts student life.
