Abstract:

This is the first of a two-part article reporting on a study of disruptive behavior policies in Kentucky colleges. In Part I, presented here, the authors outline the issues targeted in the study, describe the methodology employed, and discuss the conduct of both phases of the study. In Part II, which will appear in an upcoming issue of CS&SD, the authors report on the data collected in the study and present an analysis based on policy examination rather than possibly less reliable statistical comparisons, which analyses may be of greater help to administrators in considering and devising policies that address the issue of disruptive and violent student behavior.
