Abstract:

This article discusses the liability of Universities when an athlete or spectator is injured due to the nature of the game or its players. It addresses the assumption of risk, where the player is aware of the risk of participating in the sport, but chooses to do so anyway. It addresses what the University and the coach can do to make sure the right safety measures are taken to reduce risk. Court cases are cited as examples.
