Abstract: 

If one were to ask us whether student loans are dischargeable in bankruptcy, the quick answer is generally no, but the true answer is that it depends on the severity of the debtor’s financial plight. This article reviews the basic provisions of the Bankruptcy code applicable to student debt, and then examines the conditions under which student loans can be discharged in bankruptcy.
