Abstract:
What is the role of dentistry in corrections? What procedures should be allowed? When should care be provided and who should receive it? These are all important questions involving dental services with in a correctional environment. Some of these questions do not have a definitive answer, but are in a constant state of flux. Others are more objective. To better understand the delivery of services, a look at each stage an inmate passes through, and how it affects overall dental care, is required. There are four stages each inmate must pass through. These include: 1. Assessment, 2. Classification, 3. Examination, and 4. Routine care. Keywords: baseline, electronic dental record, treatment plan, routine care, appointments, Inventory/needle counts
