Abstract:
During recent decades, electronic health records (EHRs) have begun to appear in private offices, in hospital settings, and across managed care networks. Beginning with simple database applications and standalone scheduling processes, EHRs are now becoming complete systems that can create paperless environments. Not surprisingly, the majority of installations are custom-designed and installed (expensive), lack portability and compatibility, and carry various strengths and weaknesses. The environment is akin to word processing programs about 25 years ago. Keywords: HIPAA, Bush, compatibility, data, images, standardized datasets
