Abstract:
The number of persons incarcerated in prisons and jails in the United States has increased substantially during the past decade. Medical and mental health systems in corrections have evolved during this period in response both to the legal requirement of providing health care for the incarcerated and the recognition that inmates have a number of medical and mental health disorders. Certainly, one of the big questions is “How many inmates can we expect to have in U.S. prisons in the years ahead?”Keywords: Demographics, baby boomers, habitual offenders, longer incarcerations, Infection, vaccination, pharmaceuticals, Telemedicine
