Abstract:

The Family Preservation Program was developed in 1996 by the Indiana State Department of Health Maternal Child Health Services, the Indiana Division of Family and Social Services, and the employees of IWP under the supervision of superintendent, Dana Blank. The Family Preservation Program was founded on the belief that through mentoring, counseling, and role modeling, the families of offenders would be less likely become further victims of substance abuse or violence and the offenders would not continue to neglect or abuse their children. The program was designed to provide education, community support and interaction between the offender and her family members and other caregivers of the offenders’ children, and to create and maintain a healthy home and healthy family relationship. The staff of the Family Preservation Program collaborate with community service providers to provide programs and services for the offenders and their family members.
