Abstract:
Before we can understand where we are going in correctional health care, we must have a clear idea of where we have been and where we are now. Surprisingly, this in itself is somewhat difficult because of the incredible variability between jails, prisons, states and systems. Even within a fairly unified system, each prison has unique features and a unique culture. The axiom “if you have seen one prison, you have seen one prison” is reality and it makes generalization on specific items and areas very difficult. Keywords: Farmer v. Brennan, Estelle v.
