Abstract:

Editor’s Note: This is part 2 of a two-part article. Part 1 appeared in the previous issue. People with PTSD are fixated on a trauma and keep reliving it, especially if their coping mechanisms have been overwhelmed by a series of traumas. They cannot continue with their lives because memories or images of the traumatic event(s) are so intrusive or compelling that they are not free to turn their attention to new material and new events. They interpret new events in relation to the past trauma(s), and this causes a further reliving of the trauma and dampens new experience.
