Abstract:

In the spring of 2008, revisions to both the Standards for Correctional Health Services in Jails and the Standards for Correctional Health Services in Prisons will be published by the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC). The 2008 Standards for Mental Health Services in Correctional Settings will also be introduced, as well as the accreditation program based on them. Jails and prisons accredited by the NCCHC will have a six-month transition period to come into compliance with these standards. The separate accreditation program for mental health services is expected to be implemented in the last quarter of 2008.
