Abstract:

Health Information Technology (HIT) is the general term used to describe the use of digital modes of recording, manipulating, and communicating data relevant to the health care system. While many people equate HIT with Electronic Health Records (EHR), HIT is broader, with parts that may be implemented even when a full EHR is not feasible due to constraints of cost or excess complexity. This article provides an overview of HIT and discusses why correctional facilities may want to invoke the KISS (keep it simple, stupid) principle when thinking about implementing an EHR.
