Abstract: 

In correctional institutions, nondental professionals usually oversee dental health care. This article offers administrators with little or no dental background some tips on effectively and effi ciently delivering dental care. In most correctional institutions, the dental department reports to a medical department, which in turn reports to facility administrators. Given that the majority of administrators have no formal dental education or background, one might ask, “How do health care administrators, facility administrators, wardens, and nurses determine whether a dental department is performing its work appropriately?”
