Abstract: 

Sexual assault is traumatizing in any situation. When a survivor is treated with incredulity or lack of concern, the trauma is signifi cantly worsened. Sadly, victims of prisoner rape encounter such treatment all too commonly. Many of the signifi cant advances made by the antiviolence movement – from confidential counseling to sensitive medical forensic exams – are not available to victims of rape in prison. Fortunately, that is changing.
