Abstract:

Judging from the response to a recent National Credentialing Council for Healthcare Professionals (NCCHC) conference session, interest is growing for application of evidence-based nursing practice (EBNP) in correctional health care. Speaker Susan Laffan, RN, CCHP-A, considers this a perfect time to apply the evidence based approach to nursing care. Evidence-based nursing practice involves the use of the most credible and up-to-date research to guide patient care. This way of practicing stresses the use of protocols and procedures that are based on research and other objective information, rather than ritual, opinion, or “the way we have always done it.”
